A total of 32,617 out of 77,901 passed the Nurse Licensure Examination, the Professional Regulation announced Saturday.
Golda Manto Yap, a graduate of the Felipe R. Verallo Memorial Foundation, topped the exams, getting an average score of 86.80 percent.
The Board of Nursing conducted the test last June in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, Sulu, Pagadian and Zamboanga.

The BON Advisory
Monday, June 29, 2009The PRC Board of Nursing has released an advisory last January 30, 2009 regarding the number of OR/DR case requirements for the filing of application for the Nursing Licensure Examination.
According to the advisory, the Board has not announced any changes in the prevailing requirement of cases for the intra-partal, intraoperative and immediate care of the newborn.
The required number of OR/DR Cases remains to be 5, amidst some announcements made by some Nursing Schools that it was already reduced to 3.
The Board or Nursing would like to emphasize that they adhere to a “NO RETROACTIVE APPLICATION OF ANY NEW POLICY “, therefore if and when new promulgations are finally issued this will never be applied to “graduating students”. All related policy-changes that will be announced shall be in effect for those who will enroll for this coming June of 2009.
Applicants for the 2009-2010 Nursing Licensure Examination are directed to follow the PREVAILING PRESCRIPTIONS of five cases each with regards to O.R., D.R., and Cord Care requirements.
Nursing graduates of 2011 and 2012, meaning those enrolling in their 2nd and 3rd Academic Year shall be those who shall be affected by the new policy promulgations.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS ON THE USE OF THESE FORMS:
Rule 1: Logic dictates that these forms should be applied only to the in-coming Nursing students in Levels I and II only of Academic Year 2008-2009 onwards until their graduation and until new issuances are released by the Board of Nursing;
Rule 2: All those filing applications for this November 2008 Nurse Licensure Examinations and the succeeding NLEs “prior to the effectivity of these NEW FORMS” should all be accepted by the Central and Regional PRC Offices without any condition. If there are any noted discrepancies or any untoward
observations, the Board of Nursing requires appropriate documentation and reporting from the respective PRC Offices and should be received by the Board of Nursing until after the last day of the NLE. Everything should be directed as official communications to the Board of Nursing;
Rule 3: As a matter of policy, graduates ARE NOT TO BE PENALIZED for any discrepancies and therefore all applications duly submitted “on time” MUST BE ACCEPTED. The Board of Nursing shall take necessary actions based on official reports received by the same at the Central Office within the prescribed period
as set in Rule 2; As a general rule the Board of Nursing subscribes to the principle of “loco parentis”.
The college and its administration directly involved in the care and supervision of students/graduates are and shall be responsible and accountable to the lawful authorities.

June 2009 Nursing Board Exam Result
About 78k student nurses will take the upcoming June 2009 Nursing Board Exam. This will happen in June 6 and 7 2009. It appears to be that Manila has the most number of students registering a whooping 42,338. It was followed by Baguio and Cebu with 11,336 and 6,948 respectively.
Davao, has 4,069 examinees, Legaspi with 2,978, Lucena with 2,517, Cagayan De Oro with 2,313, Iloilo with 2,158, Tuguegarao with 1,314, Zamboanga with 1,375, Pagadian with 635, Tacloban with 458, and Jolo with 134.
The result of the June 2009 Nursing Board Exam will be posted here on our site immediately. So I urged each and everyone to subscribe in our site or bookmark this page for future reference.

Jobs for Nurses in Saudi Arabia

50,000 to 60,000 jobs awaits Filipino Nurses in Saudi Arabia within the next six months. Officials of the King Fahd Medical Center are in the country today interviewing prospective applicants.
Lito Soriano of the LBS E-recruitment Solutions said that the demand for nurses in the Middle East are very high and immediate in fact, King Fahd Medical Center has linked up with more than two Philippine recruitment agencies to fill up their vacancies.
Saudi increased its inflation allowance from five percent to 10 percent of the basic salary, which would range from $600 to $1,000. This is on top of free housing, free transportation, and yearly vacation.
Nurses with two years actual experience in tertiary hospitals with at least 200 bed capacities and working with modern equipment are the top priorities.
Unfortunately, the Philippines cannot fill out those requirements due to lack of tertiary hospitals in the country and the volunteer work of Filipino nurses in government hospitals were not properly recognized.

New Zealand’s New Policy Affects Second Coursers
Monday, March 2, 2009The New Zealand Nursing Council now requires Filipino nurses particularly second coursers to study 2-3 more semesters in New Zealand before they can apply for registration.
The council reasoned that in taking nursing as a second course, the student’s course duration was shortened since he or she was exempted from certain subjects, which often meant finishing the course in two to three years, instead of four.
They also expressed worry that the rapid increase in the number of nursing students in the Philippines—about 450,000 in 2008 — might have an effect on the quality of the course.
An organization of Filipino migrant workers in New Zealand appealed Thursday to the Nursing Council to approve the registration of qualified Filipino nurses who have been working for at least one year before implementing the new policy requiring nurses to take on second courses.
According to Dennis Maga, Migrante-Aotearoa national coordinator, hundreds of Filipino Nurses will be forced to go home because they cannot afford to pay around NZ$20,0000 a year for the required additional semesters.
Mr. Maga recounted the experience of a Filipino nurse, a second-courser, who has been in New Zealand for almost three years and has a pending job offer in a hospital.
The council earlier issued other tougher requirements for overseas-trained nurses seeking employment in New Zealand. Under the new policy, effective January 1, 2009, all applicants including Filipinos must have a score of at least 7.0 in each band of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to qualify.
