The BON Advisory

The PRC Board of Nursing has released an advisory last January 30, 2009 regarding the number of OR/DR case requirements for the filing of application for the Nursing Licensure Examination.

According to the advisory, the Board has not announced any changes in the prevailing requirement of cases for the intra-partal, intraoperative and immediate care of the newborn.

The required number of OR/DR Cases remains to be 5, amidst some announcements made by some Nursing Schools that it was already reduced to 3.

The Board or Nursing would like to emphasize that they adhere to a “NO RETROACTIVE APPLICATION OF ANY NEW POLICY “, therefore if and when new promulgations are finally issued this will never be applied to “graduating students”. All related policy-changes that will be announced shall be in effect for those who will enroll for this coming June of 2009.

Applicants for the 2009-2010 Nursing Licensure Examination are directed to follow the PREVAILING PRESCRIPTIONS of five cases each with regards to O.R., D.R., and Cord Care requirements.

Nursing graduates of 2011 and 2012, meaning those enrolling in their 2nd and 3rd Academic Year shall be those who shall be affected by the new policy promulgations.

New OR/DR Form for Nursing Students

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS ON THE USE OF THESE FORMS:

Rule 1: Logic dictates that these forms should be applied only to the in-coming Nursing students in Levels I and II only of Academic Year 2008-2009 onwards until their graduation and until new issuances are released by the Board of Nursing;

Rule 2: All those filing applications for this November 2008 Nurse Licensure Examinations and the succeeding NLEs “prior to the effectivity of these NEW FORMS” should all be accepted by the Central and Regional PRC Offices without any condition. If there are any noted discrepancies or any untoward
observations, the Board of Nursing requires appropriate documentation and reporting from the respective PRC Offices and should be received by the Board of Nursing until after the last day of the NLE. Everything should be directed as official communications to the Board of Nursing;

Rule 3: As a matter of policy, graduates ARE NOT TO BE PENALIZED for any discrepancies and therefore all applications duly submitted “on time” MUST BE ACCEPTED. The Board of Nursing shall take necessary actions based on official reports received by the same at the Central Office within the prescribed period
as set in Rule 2; As a general rule the Board of Nursing subscribes to the principle of “loco parentis”.
The college and its administration directly involved in the care and supervision of students/graduates are and shall be responsible and accountable to the lawful authorities.

NCLEX

NCLEX is an exam required to get licensed to legally practice as a nurse in the United States. NCLEX is an acronym that stands for National Council Licensure EXamination. After successful completion of the appropriate nursing school, a prospective nurse must pass one of two versions of the NCLEX in order to obtain a license to practice. The NCLEX-RN is required to become a Registered Nurse (RN) and the NCLEX-PN is required to practice as a Practical Nurse (LPN or LVN)
